The purpose of this operation is to take away the signs of aging of the eyelids and to change the tired eyes look into a more rested appearance, always taking care to keep a natural look.

BEFORE THE OPERATION

At the first consultation, after a morphologic and dynamic analysis of your look, I will take photographs; I will study and compare them to old photographs taken at different stages of your life. This will allow me to see the changes which have taken place in each zone of the peri-orbital region: eyebrows, upper eyelids, lower eyelids inferior orbital rim and malar area during the aging process and will propose the best choice of operation for you.
You will be asked to see an ophthalmologist, in order to check there is no pre-existing condition that needs attention before the operation.
It is absolutely vital to stop smoking 6 weeks before the surgery given the risk of skin damage due to the vascular constriction caused by the nicotine, and completely give up smoking if you would like to keep a good long term result.

THE OPERATION

This operation can be carried out under local anesthetic or local anesthetic with sedation, usually as an out- patient.
For the upper eyelids, the incision is hidden in the palpebral fold which is a natural place, and for the lower eyelids, the incision is made just under the lower eyelashes. The operation concerns three elements: skin, fat and muscles:
– the excess skin is removed and the remaining skin redraped,
– the orbicular muscle distended is tightened up and repositioned,
– fat bags are removed and fat is redistributed.
However, the new tendency is to combine a microlipostructure technique by reinjection of

Autologous fat to fill out areas such as : lower orbital rim, upper peri-orbital area, to avoid the hollow eyes, and give a look of rejuvenation (cf. lipostructure).

AFTERCARE

You will stay at the clinic 3 hours after the operation with a compressive bandage over the eyes to avoid hematomas, you will need to put on sun glasses when you leave the clinic.The stitches are removed on the 5th day. Lymphatic drainage is recommended to diminish the edema and obtain a quicker recovery.

THE RESULT

The final result is obtained at about 6 months, at which time I will analyse the result and additional procedures can be suggested because eye surgery alone can’t correct everything; injection of toxin botulin to diminish periorbital wrinkles, and hyaluronic acid injection to fill in the crow’s feet.
